21st-screen-actors-guild-logo-wide

The nominees for the 21st Screen Actors Guild for television were announced this morning, along with their motion picture counterparts, with Modern Family still a major player, Orange is the New Black scoring and Boardwalk Empire ending its final season with a bang.

In Drama, House of Cards scored three nominations, the only show to hit all three categories (Male Actor – Spacey, Female Actor – Wright and Ensemble. Homeland (having a huge resurgence this season), Downton Abbey, True Detective and Game of Thrones all received two. Viola Davis and Tatiana Maslany shook up Female Actor in a Drama Series in a category that saw six nominees.

In TV Movie/Miniseries, Olive Kitteridge and The Normal Heart were the only multi-nominees and Benedict Cumberbatch’s mention for Sherlock makes him a triple nominee this morning (he also landed nominations for Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture for The Imitation Game).

In Comedy, Modern Family was best in show with four nominations (two for Male Actor, one for Female, one for the Cast) and Veep, Orange is the New Black and The Big Bang Theory came away with two apiece. Brooklyn Nine-Nine managed an Outstanding Cast nomination but not one for its lead, Andy Samberg.

About Erik Anderson

Erik blames his mother for his love of all things Oscar, having watched them together since he opened his eyes. They also watched Miss Universe religiously every year (the pageantry!) and Erik came to the conclusion that the combination of these two things ultimately led him down the path to obsessing about awards and ACTRESSING. He began at GoldDerby, led by Tom O’Neill and then migrated over to Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), headed up by Sasha Stone before breaking off to create AwardsWatch. He is a member of the International Cinephile Society, GALECA (The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics), the International Press Academy and is the founder/owner of AwardsWatch.
