Out Web Fest 2018: May 18-20 featuring Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds doc ‘Believer’

Out Web Fest is the world’s only digital festival dedicated to celebrating web series, short films and music videos by and for the global queer community. OWF’s mission is to provide the opportunity for all queer content creators to connect with the global community and celebrate the progressive evolution of LGBTQ+ entertainment. OWF breaks the mold of other festivals by giving prominence and a voice to the honest and unfiltered digital short-form storytelling that does not rely on access to resources, lofty budgets, or elite “movers and shakers” in the industry.

In the 21st Century short-form content leads as the hottest and fastest growing category in digital entertainment and we believe it is the perfect forum to share multiple perspectives of queer culture that make our stories some of the most innovative, ground-breaking, and unique in the world. OWF introduces international and local digital content creators, producers, and fans to inclusive programming that acknowledges the cultural significance of this revolutionary intersection of medium and storytelling.

Featuring industry panels and pitch meetings with reps from IFC, INTO, Funny or Die and Queerty, to screenings and parties, and yes, awards, OWF is a vital foot in the door for LGBTQ films and filmmakers trying to get their voices heard and seen. For more information, please visit http://www.outwebfest.com/

Audience Awards will be given in the following categories:

Comedy
Drama
Music
Docs & Experimental

At the conclusion of each category screening, the theatre audience will be given the opportunity to vote via secret ballot for the most outstanding entry. The winners of the Audience Awards will be announced at the closing night party.

Premiere queer global streaming network, Revry, is proud to present the 3rd annual Out Web Fest (OWF), the first queer web festival celebrating the best in independent LGBTQ digital storytelling.  At YouTube Space LA, this year’s opening night film will be the West Coast premiere of the acclaimed HBO documentary film, BELIEVER, directed by Don Argott, produced by Live Nation Productions and starring Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds. Prior to the screening, OWF will celebrate its annual Revry Visibility Awards honoring YouTube sensation Ingrid Nilsen and LGBTQ advocate organization LOVELOUD.  The festival continues through the weekend at The London West Hollywood hotel with screenings, panels and two Powerhouse Industry Pitchfests for content creators wanting to pitch today’s top executives in the digital domain.  OWF is a three day festival that introduces international and local digital content creators, producers, and fans to inclusive programming, acknowledging the cultural significance of this revolutionary intersection of medium and storytelling. Festival Tickets Available Now at: https://www.OutWebFest.com  Only Pitchfest Tickets HERE.

BELIEVER (West Coast Premiere):  Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds comes to a crossroads when he witnesses fellow members of the Mormon church spurned due to their sexual orientation.  Since 2008, teen suicide rates in Utah have skyrocketed, which many people attribute to the Mormon church’s official stance regarding same-sex relationships.  Director Don Argott follows Dan and openly gay former Mormon Tyler Glenn, lead singer of Neon Trees, as they decide to create LOVELOUD, a music and spoken-word festival designed to spark dialogue between the church and members of the LGBTQ+ community.  Produced by Live Nation Productions, BELIEVER will debut June 25th on HBO.

(Dan Reynolds, LOVELOUD, Ingrid Nilsen)

The Revry Visibility Awards annually honors those persons and/or organizations that participate in evolving society’s perspectives on LGBTQ issues.  This year Revry is proud to honor YouTube icon Ingrid Nilsen for her profound impact in LGBTQ advocacy and Dan Reynold’s non-profit organization LOVELOUD for bringing unconditional love and support to out LGBTQ+ friends and families.

About Erik Anderson

Erik thanks his mother for his love of all things Oscar, having watched the Academy Awards together since he was in the single digits; making lists, rankings and predictions throughout the show. This led him down the path to obsessing about awards. Much later, he found himself at GoldDerby, led by Tom O’Neill and then migrated over to Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), headed up by Sasha Stone before breaking off to create AwardsWatch. He is a member of the International Cinephile Society, GALECA (The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics), the International Press Academy and is the founder/owner of AwardsWatch.
