The Wong Kar-wai show sounds very exciting. And I love Rudolph and Armisen, so I'll be watching that show, too.

‘Let’s Get Physical’: Jane Seymour To Star In Pop TV Aerobics Comedy Series

Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman) has been tapped for the plum co-lead role on Pop TV’s new half-hour comedy Let’s Get Physical, a modern-day story set in the world of aerobics that takes its comedy cue from the ‘80s.

Seymour will play one of four leads on the project, which recently received a series order, alongside Matt Jones, Chris Diamantopoulos and AnnaLynne McCord, The comedy, from Pop and Entertainment One, is slated to begin production this month in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for a 2018 premiere.

Created by Connor Pritchard and Dan and Ben Newmark, Let’s Get Physical centers on Joe (Jones), a slacker named who makes a reluctant comeback in the fitness industry after his dad, Colonel Tom Force, aka “The Godfather of Aerobics,” unexpectedly passes away and wills his son the broken-down family gym. In a Brewster’s Millions-type switch, to receive the family fortune and estate, Joe must take on his archnemesis Barry Cross (Diamantopoulos), who has become a highly successful fitness entrepreneur. Against all odds, they face off in the ultimate battle of masculinity: the National Aerobics Championships. McCord plays Claudia Cross, Joe’s former sweetheart who is now Barry’s wife and a tech-savvy businesswoman.

Seymour will play Joe’s mother, Janet Force, a former Miss Texas who is obsessed with maintaining the family fitness legacy and anti-aging remedies. There was significant interest in the role, with a number of well-known actresses meeting for it.

‘Monster’: Starz Acquires Norwegian Serial Killer Thriller For U.S.

Starz has acquired U.S. premium pay-TV rights to Norwegian mystery drama thriller Monster. Created by headwriter Hans Christian Storrøsten and director Anne Sewitsky, it’s produced by NRK Drama. The seven-episode serial killer series has also just won the 2017 European Script Award for Most Innovative Script of the Year by a newcomer.

In the dark and remote landscape of northern Norway, a brutal murder reveals a mass grave which links old cases to missing people. Local policewoman Hedda (Ingvild Holthe Bygdnes) is put on the case with special investigator Joel Dreyer (Lilyhamer and The Bridge‘s Jakob Oftebro) who comes from the metropolitan south. Their different backgrounds, personalities and methods immediately set them against each other. But when the investigation begins to spiral out of control, both detectives resort to questionable moves in order to stay on the case and protect their secrets.

Starz’s commitment to Monster for the U.S. is a significant landmark for Norwegian drama. It follows a growing trend of local-language dramas to head to English-speaking markets. The UK’s BBC Four has been an avid acquirer of Scandi drama while Sundance TV has aired Italy’s Gomorrah and co-produced German series Deutschland 83. NRK’s Nobel is currently on Netflix and its Valkyrien recently debuted on Channel 4’s Walter Presents in the UK, the service that also launched in the U.S. in March.

Netflix & Agnieszka Holland Team For Polish-Language Cold War Thriller

Netflix is prepping its first Polish-language original series with Oscar-nominated director Agnieszka Holland helming, along with Kasia Adamik. The pair recently collaborated on Holland’s Spoor which is Poland’s submission this year for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar and won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize in Berlin last February. The Kennedy/Marshall Company and The House Media Company are producing the alternative history Cold War spy thriller for the streaming service.

This is the latest in a raft of local-language productions that Netflix is getting behind — and it’s also a reteam with Holland who previously directed several episodes of House Of Cards.

The untitled eight-episode series will be shot in various cities and regions in Poland for launch in 2018. Set in a world where the Iron Curtain never fell, it’s 2002 — 20 years after a devastating terrorist attack halted the course of Poland’s liberation and the subsequent downfall of the Soviet Union. After two decades of peace and prosperity, the leaders of the regime enact a secret plan that was made with an unlikely adversary in the 1980s and will radically transform Poland, affecting the lives of every citizen in the nation — and the world. When an idealistic law student and a disgraced police investigator stumble upon the conspiracy, what they discover has the potential to ignite a popular revolution while those in power will stop at nothing to keep it a secret.

STX Entertainment Teams With Google To Introduce, And Produce For, VR Channel

STX Entertainment says today that it has forged a virtual reality alliance with Google to launch what they call a “pay-per-experience channel” for “high quality, mobile VR.”

STXsurreal, created after STX bought Surreal Inc. about a year ago, will make several live-action, scripted VR series. They’ll be available on the channel, which will be on Google’s Daydream VR platform.

STXsurreal Co-Presidents Andy Vick and Rick Rey say in a statement that they sold to STX last year “because we knew having access to the vast resources of the company and its deep relationships with top filmmakers and stars would accelerate our mission of creating the highest quality VR entertainment for audiences across the globe.”

They say the new channel will be to VR what HBO and Showtime are to traditional video. They plan to be “highly selective with a true programming voice, and we will be actively involved in all productions.”

It will feature fan-favorite episodes from the podcast, including the tale of a boy given a doll that seems to have a sinister life of its own, a family whose home appears to be inhabited by a spirit from the other side and a German village that hunts for a murderous creature.

The cast includes Robert Patrick, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Adam Goldberg, Holland Roden, Colm Feore and Campbell Scott.

Starz Greenlights Drama Series ‘Vida’ In Push To Attract Latino Viewers

Starz has given a series order to Vida (fka Pour Vida), a Mexican-American sisters drama with Veronica Osorio (Hail, Caesar!, The Carmichael Show) and Melissa Barrera (Club de Cuervos, La Mujer de Judas) set to star.

Vida was one of three projects based on Spanish-language formats and stories from Hispanic creators, writers and producers, which Starz announced in January 2016 as part of its “programming strategy of seeking diverse voices,” per Starz CEO Chris Albrecht. After scoring with Power, its hit drama that appeals to African American audiences, the network had set a goal to develop programming targeting Hispanic viewers, which the series order for Vida is a result of. (Separately, Starz pursued a Havana Quartet drama starring Antonio Banderas, which did not progress beyond the development stage.)

Vida is a half-hour drama series focusing on two Mexican-American sisters from the Eastside of Los Angeles who couldn’t be more different or distanced from each other. Circumstances force them to return to their old neighborhood, where they are confronted by the past and shocking truth about their mother’s identity. Osorio will play Emma; and Barrera will portray her sister, Lyn.

Keke Palmer to Lead “Scream” Season 3 on MTV

Keke Palmer has been set as the lead of MTV’s third season of SCREAM, with RJ Cyler, Jessica Sula, Giorgia Whigham and Giullian Yao Gioiello also cast, the network announced Wednesday.

Palmer, who is coming off of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens, will play Kym, described as a rebel with a thousand causes, who is a bold and beautiful social activist with a big heart and zero patience for suffering fools. When Kym and her friends find themselves hunted by a killer, she works to flip the script and survive at any cost.

Cyler will play Deion, a star running back for the high school football team who hopes to secure a college football scholarship that will take him far away from Atlanta, a plan that seems destined to fail when he becomes the target of a masked killer with ties to his past.

‘Locke & Key’: Nate Corddry To Co-Star In Hulu Fantasy Pilot

Nate Corddry (Mom) is set to co-star opposite Frances O’Connor in Locke & Key, Hulu’s one-hour horror/fantasy drama adaptation of the IDW comic by Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez. The pilot comes from Hill, Carlton Cuse and IDW Entertainment.

Written by Hill and directed by It’s Andy Muschietti, Locke & Key revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine with their mother Nina (O’Connor) only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.

Corddry will play Duncan Locke, the Locke children’s uncle. Duncan does what he can to ease the family’s pain after his older brother’s murder, and he and his boyfriend, Brian Rogers, help Nina and the kids settle into the old family home. Duncan doesn’t seem to think that there’s anything wrong with the house, but he possesses a few critical secrets…
