I like Shannon and Waterston, but my general rule of thumb is the less period piece biopics in the race, the better.

Does Shannon do any kind of accent?

Not really. Just sounded like his typical speaking voice.

Sounds exactly what you would expect a Weinstein Oscar bait biopic directed by Me, Earl, Dying Girl director to be like, yikes

    I warned all!

It's just one person; I wouldn't trust the word of AW when it comes to an Oscar bait film. Remember "Philomena" the people here swore the film was awful and that Dench wouldn't get nominated, yet the film received very good reviews and did very well with AMPAS.

It's more than that, though, and all agree it's a mess

There's a difference between bland Oscar bait like that, and a tonal mess like this

Obviously all reactions should be taken with grain of salt, but it's still worth noting

No, the people back then didn't call it bland, they said it was straight up awful. This is just one person, I'll wait for official reviews.

But why continue to predict this for stuff if we had two or three forum members see it and all vehemently hated it? I mean it's more to go off of than...nothing. And as for Philomania, wasn't the bad review just from notorious Dench-naysayer Movefreak?

IIRC Cedric also saw Philomena early and hated it, lol. And we had a handful of people who saw August: Osage County early and claimed that Meryl would win #4. So....

But I can buy this being bad (the previously attached directors, yikes!) and I think it's very possible that Harvey just simply won't have a strong Oscar film this year (I don't buy Mary Magdalene).

Dude it's a mess. It's a fucking train wreck. Mark my words. It's Oscar potential died tonight...

HUH??? I really really really liked it. Micheal Shannon and Matthew Macfadyen blew it out of the park. The Alien Lizard was himself though, different movie same performance. I had zero expectations but i was really moved and the background score is amazing as well.
