If Timothée Chalamet ever plays an important role in a film for a larger audience, he might be more recognized for that role. It's not really comparable with Leonardo Dicaprio and Titanic, for me. And even, Leo and Kate Winslet have made big roles after, I hope Timothée will have this kind of career.
I am completely in agreement. He has great potential. Although he will inevitably be forever associated with Elio, like Deniro, Pacino, Day Lewis, DiCaprio early iconic roles shouldn’t negate later iconic roles. He’s 22. Shouldn’t be at full strength until his mid 30s, early 40s.

    & for UTSL as listed.
Too much love will kill you
Just as sure as none at all
It'll drain the power that's in you
Make you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
You're the victim of your crime

Too much love will kill you every time

I feel like we may be in for another Django Unchained scenario, with Driver getting category frauded into supporting, and the real supporting role (Topher Grace / DiCaprio) being passed over because people don't want to reward such a despicable character, when other options are available.

Driver wouldn’t get category frauded— he is supporting. Just substantially supporting. Even Waltz was more leading in Django. Nobody will confuse or vote Driver lead. But the problem is, the reviews aren’t there for him to make a splash. He’s also not going to campaign very much. And the optics of a white actor getting nominated for a Spike Lee are not good.

So who else do we have in this Supporting category?

    That's too much.

I think Driver stands a good shot (if it works out, you say the reviews are mediocre?) and I don't think it will be controversial as it's a pivotal role cast by Spike Lee.

I thought the trailer was kinda bad but I could see how people would like it. Maybe.

Surely Driver will capitalize someday. I agree that it's unlikely he'd campaign much, tho.

Contenders dropping like flies. Not sold yet on First Man being a 3 nom film. James may have to overcome an inaccessible film which will be hard as a more young unknown actor. Driver isnt the necessary personal buzz

    Chalamet
    Grant
    Rockwell
    Hammer
    Jordan

If Chandler was prominent in the trailer, doesn't that increase his chances? Lol

I'm just not sure if First Man is a 3 acting nom type film. They are rare, and we already have a stronger contender for that title with Cheney. The most comparable, I suppose, would be Lincoln, but that was more all-around actor friendly than First Man will end up being. Tommy Lee Jones won SAG and was very likely 2nd in Supporting Actor. It's not as though Chandler will be transforming with multiple monologues. And First Man is still white and masculine overall. It could be likelier if it was a more diverse ensemble (obviously, it's biographical so not much could have been done in that regard)
