The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced 19 nominees for induction in 2017. There are nine first-time nominees, including Tupac Shakur and Pearl Jam, who are in their first year of eligibility. To be considered for induction, an artist or group must have released their first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Other first-timers include Joan Baez, Journey, Depeche Mode and surprise nominee Bad Brains. This is Chic’s 11th nomination. Nile Rodgers, who led the group in the 1970s, has become one of music’s most legendary producers having been behind some of the biggest singles of the 1980s from Madonna, David Bowie, INXS, The Thompson Twins, Duran Duran and The B-52s.  Last year’s inductees included N.W.A, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Chicago, and Steve Miller.

Ballots will be sent to approximately 800 artists, historians, and members of the music industry. Beginning today, the public will also have a chance to vote and cast a fan ballot. The top five vote-getters from that vote will be tallied as a single ballot and counted alongside the others. Public voting ends December 5th.

The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be announced December. The induction ceremony will be held at the Barclay’s Center in New York City in April 2017.

About Erik Anderson

Erik blames his mother for his love of all things Oscar, having watched them together since he opened his eyes. They also watched Miss Universe religiously every year (the pageantry!) and Erik came to the conclusion that the combination of these two things ultimately led him down the path to obsessing about awards and ACTRESSING. He began at GoldDerby, led by Tom O’Neill and then migrated over to Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), headed up by Sasha Stone before breaking off to create AwardsWatch. He is a member of the International Cinephile Society, GALECA (Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association), the International Press Academy and is the founder/editor of AwardsWatch.
