    Your Favorite Albums.

I know we do these quite often but since we have this new subforum - perhaps we can sticky this, everyone can have their own space to post their list (however long it may be), and update accordingly. I'll make one for songs, too.

Favorite, best - there's no difference.

I'll rattle off a quick top 15 without thinking all too hard about it. Alphabetical. One per artist (for now):

    Gold: Greatest Hits / ABBA
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band / The Beatles
    Vespertine / Bjork
    Blackout / Britney Spears
She's So Unusual / Cyndi Lauper
    Heroes / David Bowie
    Bad Girls / Donna Summer
    2001 / Dr. Dre
Welcome to the Pleasuredome / Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Blue (or Court and Spark?!) / Joni Mitchell
Hounds of Love / Kate Bush
    IV / Led Zeppelin
    Erotica / Madonna
To Bring You My Love / PJ Harvey
    Purple Rain / Prince

I guess using Gold for my ABBA pick is "cheating," so if I went for a studio LP it would definitely be The Visitors.

This is already feeling so incomplete. I'm gonna try to do a definitive top 100 within the next few months...or something.

Really spontaneously made a list of 30 (one per artist duh)... I couldn't possibly rank them and narrowing it down to these was exceedingly difficult. This list would surely change every day.

    Aaliyah -- Aaliyah
The Avalanches -- Since I Left You
    Bjork -- Homogenic
    Black Flag -- Damaged
    Buzzcocks -- Singles Going Steady

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band -- Safe as Milk
Chet Baker -- Chet Baker Sings
Dead Can Dance -- Toward the Within
The Everybodyfields -- Nothing is Okay
The Hold Steady -- Stay Positive

Jandek -- Chair Beside a Window
Janet Jackson -- Rhythm Nation 1814
    Jeff Buckley -- Grace
    Kate Bush -- The Dreaming
Liz Phair -- Exile in Guyville

    Lucinda Williams -- Lucinda Williams
    Madonna -- Bedtime Stories
    Morrissey -- Vauxhall and I
    My Bloody Valentine -- Loveless
    Nas -- Illmatic

Neil Young -- Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Nina Simone -- Wild is the Wind
    Nirvana -- In Utero
PJ Harvey -- Is This Desire?
Prince -- Sign 'O' The Times

Public Enemy -- It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Sam Cooke -- Live at the Harlem Square Club
Sonic Youth -- A Thousand Leaves
    Swans -- Children of God
    Tom Waits -- Rain Dogs

Just going off the top of my head, and with one per artist -

    1. Demon Days, Gorillaz
    2. Rumours, Fleetwood Mac
    3. 52nd Street, Billy Joel
    4. Be Not Nobody, Vanessa Carlton
    5. London Calling, The Clash
    6. Smashing Live, The Japanese Philharmonic Orchestra
(^Since this one isn't very well known, I thought I'd explain what it is - the music of Super Smash Brothers Melee performed live. It's unbelievably good. I got the CD when I used to subscribe to Nintendo Power, but most of it is on YouTube.)
    7. Too-Rye-Ay, Dexys Midnight Runners
    8. Breakfast in America, Supertramp
    9. The Eminem Show, Eminem
    10. The Fame Monster, Lady Gaga
    11. Folie a Deux, Fall Out Boy
    12. The Book of Mormon, The Book of Mormon Original Cast
    13. There Will Be Blood, Johnny Greenwood
    14. Hourglass, James Taylor

I'm sure I'll think of more when I'm actually awake.

There are a lot of albums I sincerely love from the bottom of my heart. But as of this moment, there are four albums I've listened to that I would consider absolutely perfect and that I not only would listen to over and over again, but had a profound impact on what kind of music I would listen to as well as what I thought music could be. They are, and always will be (in descending order):

Other albums that I adore include:
    The Wall by Pink Floyd
All Days Are Nights by Rufus Wainwright
Freaked Out and Small by The Presidents of the United States of America
Once: Motion Picture Soundtrack by Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová, and others
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
    Ok Computer by Radiohead
