Donna Summers passed away. RIP.

Really loving this new Yeasayer.
It's frustrating that the chorus (and the raps) of "Dance Again" are so inane, because the verses and the bridge are pretty amazing. They need to make a version sans Pitbull, ASAP.
You can do it, Naomi! You're...
ONLY 10 EASY STEPS AWAY FROM OSCAR!
1.) Bankrupt small, independent distributor via massive Oscar campaign. Failing that, proceed to...
2.) Cash in King Kong residual checks to pay for FYC advertisements from Kinko's.
3.) To avoid getting sent straight to VOD, attach entire film as a "trailer" to another film people actually want to see. And then...
4.) Try to do it Lahti-style and win Academy Award for Best Short Film.
5.) Avoid telling a story that everyone already knows by adding exciting details and/or gratuitous editing.
6. Carefully and patiently weather the wrath of film critics/the royal family/the tabloids/Diana-maniacs for trying to add said details. (Good luck!)
7. Find all of the boxes with "August: Osage County" screeners and slip in self-made cam bootleg from premiere screening at Lowes...the hardware store.
(Not Loews, the movie theater -- too expensive!)
8. Trick octogenarian Oscar voters into thinking that you are, in fact, a real princess. (Hey, it worked on Eva Marie Saint!)
9. On Oscar night, have camera crews come to Nicole's house, Joan Crawford-style, so you can win and keep your day job.
10. OSCAR!
Dance Again is better than Call Me Maybe....so....![]()
Will Oscar have Riva Fever?
Uh, that lame chorus (and it is lame) is sorta amazing. I always want to belt it when I'm in the car.
Popjustice nailed J-lo when they said her real talent was turning "filler into killer." So, so true.
J-Lo track with Pitbull is just so dated (as Jean doesn't visit this forum so I can safely use this criticism) and lame. There is absolutely nothing to it that is fresh or appealing. I never thought I would say this but 'Call Me Maybe' is so much better.
My problem with chorus isn't necessarily the lyrics, though. It just doesn't fit into the flow of the song...at all. It's starts off at a medium pace, then the bridge is intense, and then the chorus is the slowest part of the song. The song builds and builds and then, blah, the worst chorus ever.
And I say this as a huge J. Lo fan.

LMAO, but I agree with you. Pitbull songs seem to have all originated from the summer of 2010 or something - there is no variation on the general lyrical content of anything he does (basically, he's gonna bang you, get ready), and though I do really like his flow, he hasn't done anything interesting since I Know You Want Me. And J-Lo is really reaching now, I don't think I could stand to listen to Dance Again again. Once was more than enough.
The chorus of "Dance Again" is the songs weakest bit (I won't even comment on the, uh, male in the song), but the verses and bridge ARE super awesome. I love the sound of that one. Oh well! Still don't get "Call Me Maybe." It's just so "whatever" for me.
Uh, Saint Etienne's comeback LP - Words and Music is quite something. I'm super impressed.
This was the first single if you missed it:

Hey guys and girls, if you haven't already, please send me your top 50 songs of the 90's. Thanks!
Pandora just informed me that I sadly overlooked Flobot's "Handlebars" when it first came out. Holy shit, that song is incredible. I don't know how I never picked up on the deep cynicism and world-warping horror present in its lyrics before, but now I need to hear the rest of "Fight With Tools".
So Nelly Furtado's album has been pushed back to September.![]()
She remains the best.
