    Recast Untouchable Screen Classics

Feel free to recast any film that never should be remade! All in good fun.

    Vertigo

Daniel Craig as John "Scottie" Ferguson

Michelle Williams as Judy Barton / Madeleine Elster

    Emily Mortimer as Midge Wood

    Gary Oldman as Gavin Elster

Love Mortimer as Midge and consider Craig as a very interesting choice for Scottie, but I think Scottie benefited from not being played by an incredibly “macho” actor, since his issues with women and hinted-at impotence are an important undercurrent. With someone as Craig it would feel more about a single-minded sexual obsession of a naturally sexual man, whereas with someone as “suave” as Stewart it’s more of a sexual awakening. Still, it would be quite interesting to see someone of the brooding intesity of Craig in the role.

However, LMAO at Michelle Williams as Judy/Madeleine. Isn’t the character supposed to be attractive? LOL, no straight man (even if formerly repressed) would be obsessed with Williams. You should have included a fanboy alert over there.

Scarlett Johansson, Cristina Hendrix, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence… There are many actresses that would be way more apt for that role.

And I don’t really think Elster needs to be played by anybody in particular, he’s on screen for two seconds, but I’d say it doesn’t need to be a seedy-looking man like Oldman, but rather a man that looks more like a womanizer, someone who would use his “power and freedom” to dispose of women as he wants to. Any random “macho” Hollywood B-lister would do.

Shit, I want to see this right now. Haha, I love this casting.

And yeah, Emily Mortimer as Midge is awesome. And I actually like the Williams casting idea, too.

I agree with McTeague...I don't like Michelle Williams as Judy/Madeleine. Kim Novak may not have been the greatest actress of all time, but she was well suited for the role in "Vertigo"...and as McTeague said, even though it's kind of harsh, Michelle doesn't have that same effect. She's pretty but no Kim Novak.

Acting-wise, Michelle would be good for Judy/Madeleine but yeah not attractive enough. Scarlett Johansson would be perfect though.

Not necessarily an untouchable screen classic (and it is doing it in reverse, rather than recasting an older film with today's actors), but it did come to mind when I saw it.

    LOOPER (1954):

    Directed by Nicholas Ray

    JAMES DEAN as Young Joe

    HUMPHREY BOGART as Old Joe

    EVA MARIE SAINT as Sara

    SAL MINEO as Seth

    DENNIS HOPPER as KID BLUE

    GINA LOLLABRIGIDA as SUZIE

    SYDNEY GREENSTREET as Abe

Was a coinflip between doing a version with Ray and Bogart and a version directed by Jacques Torneur and Mitchum in the Old Joe role.

I would replace Ben Mendelsohn with Mickey Rourke. The rest is perfect.

This is perfect, except for maybe Johansson, but I can't think of anyone else.

    Oh, Jessica Chastain!
