Pan's Labyrinth is a horrible children's movie posing as a deep and thoughtful commentary on war and evil while never ever abstaining from being puerile. Largely overblown and awful.

Spirited Away is my choice. Now there's a film that do not look down upon it's viewers.

Out of this, El Laberinto del Fauno, which I like but not love. Yet the selection of choices is really poor. I firmly believe LotR is not bad but nevertheless one of the most overrated things ever in any field of humankind. And the other alternatives are harmless and not-so-harmless blockbuster projects I have no major interest in.

I'm not a fan of assigning closed genres to films, but in a way Uncle Boonmee could be considered a fantasy film and my hands-down choice. If not, A.I. or Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The pretentious elitism in that last post is staggering.

Mostly because Uncle Boonmee is awful.

The obvious answer is Twilight. Let's all watch it together beneath the stars.

Thank you for your answer -I was expecting something like that- and I'm deeply sorry I'm not as enthusiastic to our Weekly Random Poll® which didn't even bother to include Other as an alternative to its seven Hollywood movies and a politically correct international alternative. Not to mention how it ignored Miayazaki, Kon, Pixar, Gondry, Jonze...

Maybe we could also talk about how this poll is putting several series (LOTR, Harry Potter, Narnia, Pirates) against single stand-alone films, which itself is idiotic.

One could question the decision to start creating polls so soon after joining.

True. I think if this wasn't a poll it would've been better.

Is it possible that you took my post seriously?

Well, I seriously think Uncle Boonmee is terrible, but aside from that it was pretty silly. Who uses the word 'elitism', anyway? What a silly word.

I think it's a good poll, though, because it gives you an idea of the original poster's preferences and gives you an opportunity to broaden them. With stuff like, for instance:

    Kung Fu Hustle
    Being John Malkovich
    The Fountain

    Or further still...

    Songs from the Second Floor
    Werckmeister Harmonies
    The Temptation of St. Tony

    etc.

Look how productive we can all be. Isn't it charming?

Those are the worst choices I've ever seen on a poll.

(I'm talking about the two people who chose "Twilight", not the actual list given to chose from)

I actually think that the Game of Thrones TV series is better than any of the films that have been mentioned with the exceptions of Spirited Away and possibly Fantastic Mr. Fox.

In the List: Pan's Labyrinth. Great film - and not a children film; I would certainly not like my children to see it; they would be traumatized.

Actually, I am not sure I would call Pan's Labyrinth a fantasy film. After all, what its powerful ending tells us is that there exists no alternate fantasy universe, no consolation, and that the only reality, the only thing that exists, is this bleak world - particularly bleak in Spain during the harrowing civil war of 1936.

While I love Pan's Labyrinth and greatly enjoyed the Potter films, it's an easy choice for me. LOTR, now bring on The Hobbit.
