Best Animated Film: December

Is it just me or is the animated field really weak this year? The only two I actually enjoyed were Frankenweenie and Brave, and they probably wouldn't make my Animated lineup in a different year.

Personally, I enjoyed Poppy Hill more than Arietty. The latter had more imagination due to it being a fantasy, but the former was pretty much a perfectly executed snapshot of a particular time and place, with a story that surprisingly kept me guessing until the end.

I think those who were down on Miyazaki Jr.'s first effort will find much to admire here.

A shame it isn't genre enough to contend with the other titles floating around.

I haven't seen either, but I'll be sure to check them out soon. Also, apparently The Secret World of Arrietty isn't eligible, so that could be a reason why it hasn't shown up anywhere else?
