I think that connection between Django and ZDT that you mention actually runs through several of the best American movies this year. If you go looking it is quite reasonable to find readings of Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, The Master, Lincoln, and even Argo (though Affleck does nothing to flesh out the ideas inherent to his material) that point towards the foundation of lies, forgotten agonies, and myths that Americans perceptions of themselves is built upon. I've been telling myself for 6 weeks I'm going to write an essay about it, but playing video games is always so much easier.

I...will try to whip something together this weekend so as to beat HS to the punch. I will not succeed in beating him to the punch, but at least it will be my words!

Have you seen The Great Silence? This was the main inspiration for Django Unchained.

Sergio Corbucci was unfortunately known as "the other Sergio."

I have not. Honestly, outside of the big Leone ones I have seen very few Spaghetti Westerns.

Can you link to your own piece when you're done? I always love to read your stuff.

I am paid to tell sales reps what blindingly obvious things they neglected to put on records.

I'm also paid to teach film and media classes to inner city community college students, but that's only part-time and the full-time position I was angling for was cut do to budget shortfalls.

I should still write my damn article, though.

Here's Todd's article. I'm not gonna lie, it sort of blows my mind to see my name in an AV Club article. But more importantly, great essay, Todd!

    Thanks, man!

I want to write a longer, more Django-centric piece for my own blog, but God only knows when THAT will happen.
