What you missed: This is clearly ldw's world, and we're all just living in it.

It didn't really start sweeping until after the snub.

This is clearly the greatest gif of all time.

The BFCA and Globe votes were already in before the Oscar noms were announced. So I think those two gave it the award because they thought it was the favorite for the win not because of pity.

You forget that each individual branch within the academy votes for its own craft (actor for actor, director for director, etc) and the whole membership votes for best picture. Affleck missing only means that the 371 directors were not passionate about it but it doesn't mean the other 5,600+ remaining members don't love it.

My 1-year-old niece saw me looking at this gif just now and started swaying.

You'd think that, after last year, Hollywood would've had their fill of patting themselves on the back (keeping in mind that they already do that by even having awards). But it would appear that "Hollywood saves the day" + "Hollywood Golden-boy director" (especially now that he was snubbed - "Poor Ben - he's being so strong") is just the right combination.

What really pisses me off is that I don't even dislike Argo. In fact, I really loved it in the cinema. But among the wealth of truly great films made this year, it's not even close. It's a really good Hollywood thriller, but nothing more imo.

So you are saying that since A) Argo has swept the BFCA, the Golden Globes and the Producers Guild and B) Lincoln did not get a best actress nomination, SLP is now the favorite to win best film over Argo and Lincoln has fallen to third.

Uhh, wouldn't a perfect winner for a crazy year be a shocking one? Such as Life of Pi or Amour?
