I'm also doubting that the film will be released this year, but he does shoot very quickly so it wouldn't surprise me if it gets done in time for say, a late November release. I agree that if the studio and Russell want it, they'll make it happen.

Why do you guarantee that? Releasing it this year would be a great way for him to maximize his current momentum with AMPAS, and the recent memory of Silver Linings Playbook, this year. Yeah, this year looks incredibly competitive, but I imagine that now is the best time for him to capitalize on his recent wave of support.
Because, it has nothing to do with how the year looks but based on what's involved into mounting the campaign. I simply know how it's done. Unless Megan Ellison want to do similarly shitty work she has done for ZD30. She ain't no Harvey. Also the fact that Columbia is absolutely terrible with its bureaucracy no help.
well Django and Les Mis were still shooting in like...May of this year for a December release....I used to be more skeptical of these things but I think that movies these days can be spit out pretty fast as long as no CGI/Special effects are needed.
2013 = Team Watts /Diaz/ Martindale/ Squibb
Was there even a race? We knew the winner since like, April.
And guys, if you get my hopes all up again for Redgrave to no avail, I’ll probably kill you.
Plus, I want to know what Faina knows.I’m pretty sure the Rusell movie can be ready for 2013, like, no doubt about it, and that it would be the wisest move to capitalize on SLP’s success (watch what rushing Million Dollar Baby did for Eastwood the year after Mystic River was so beloved!), so the only thing that keeps me from predicting it like crazy is what Faina may know. Because they’d be really stupid to postpone a finished Russell movie to 2014 just out of bureaucracy.
I don't know any insider scoop. I only base my opinion on the reality of marketing process. In order to get the film ready at this stage for the awards season release, you already need strategy in place. From what I know no word's been out that they started the process. There maybe some internal plans but everything indicates that they are playing it by ear. The big studios do not operate based on "capitalisation" of this year's race but rather on many internal and external factors and mitigating risks. However it's different story for smaller companies such as TWC as they operate on different business model and less risk averse.
MDB could be a good comparison. I doubt WB already knew they have a winner at pre-production stage. It would never got rushed into the theaters if the final product was not 100% convincing. That was after it was finished. Now at that point things could get start to heat up. Let's wait and see what the news will be once the rough cut is seen by the executives.
What about Catherine Keener as Richard Phillips's wife?
Well, the press release from the producers said they're aiming for a late 2013 so I think it's safe to say that that's what they're aiming for:
Atlas Entertainment¹s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce alongside Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison and Ted Schipper. Jon Gordon, who most recently produced “Silver Linings Playbook,” will also serve as an executive producer on the project alongside Bradley Cooper and Eric Warren Singer. Annapurna Pictures is fully financing the film, tentatively set for release in late 2013. Columbia Pictures will handle US Distribution.
I have no faith in Keener (or Hanks). The star of every Paul Greengrass film is... Paul Greengrass.
My point was in response to your notion that Russell will, for some reason, take a year between films like he did from The Fighter and SLP. The reason there was a full year between those two films was because SLP didn't start filming until October 2011. The Abscam project is filming in a couple of days, and seeing as how Russell's last two films were both shot in about 40 days, I see no reason why his next film won't come out at the end of the year.
Does a director ever say, when asked about his upcoming movie " Nope. Not my best. Could've done better on that one."?
