Just for anyone who was curious Argo won best foreign film at the IFTA's (Irish Oscars). Daniel Day-Lewis and (SNUBBED) Marion Cotillard won the acting prizes.

It also won the Scripter which officially makes it our frontrunner for Screenplay until the WGA announces (and Argo wins again). It's winning 3, the below the line guys will be all over "Pi".

I can't believe Kushner is losing, then again, I guess it would look odd if Argo won nothing in the 'big 8' other than Picture.

Yeah, at one point I thought Kusher was even more sure than DDL. But, as the Argo train has picked up momentum, I knew Argo had to win Screenplay...the 72 years with a Directing/Acting/or Writing streak is pretty damn powerful.

People are bemoaning the likelihood of Argo winning Screenplay. What if, instead, Argo wins S Actor and Lincoln wins Adapted? Since people also seem to be very against Arkin coming even close to a win.

If there was hypothetically enough passion behind Argo to propel Arkin (who has won zero non-ensemble awards for the role) to a win, then the film would certainly be winning Screenplay (and probably everything it's nominated for).

Yeah, I just can't see them giving it Picture and nothing else in the Big 8. SLP and Lincoln are strong ass contenders though.

Broken record, but I agree. Argo will win screenplay, or I don't think it has the juice to win BP.

I am now thinking it gets Sound Editing too.

Bafta Pic/Dir + Globe Pic/Dir + DGA Winners: Argo, Slumdog Millionaire, Brokeback Mountain, Schindler's List, Cuckoo's Nest, The Graduate (*Gandhi was dubiously put into Foreign Film at the Globes and won there.). But Argo doesn't have comedy, Asian, or gay factors working against it.

I think the few people who still mention Apollo 13 gotta stop since Bafta wins>Bafta snubs & Globe wins>Globe noms. Affleck I guess is just the most bizarre Oscar snub ever, based on overall awards season. Heck, if he was nominated and had this season, him losing would be the biggest shock ever.

On Oscar nom morning, I assumed Lincoln would win.
Then after Argo ruled BFCA + Globe, I thought they had about even odds.
Then Sag came, and Argo was the favorite. Then DGA came, and Argo was a dominant favorite. Then Bafta came, and Argo has one of the biggest precursor sweeps ever. Weird.

This award season has a better plot than an Agatha Christie novel.

I'm guessing whatever wins Best Picture takes Adapted Screenplay. It doesn't have to work this way, but since Picture is looking like Argo, with SLP as underdog, I'm guessing Argo is the (slight) favorite for Screenplay too, but SLP is nipping at its heels. If SLP wins Picture, it's winning Screenplay. If any form of a split were to occur between Picture/Screenplay, I imagine it would be Argo BP/SLP Screenplay. Funny (and unfortunate) how it was looking for many months that Kushner would win this, and it really seems like he's fallen out (though still possible). Lincoln really is the best script of the three, by far, but oh well.

All things being equal here I'd probably predict SLP to take screenplay with some confidence as it's such a typical winner there and gives them a chance to award Russell something without it having to be Director, but I struggle so much to see "Argo" winning with just Editing so I have to stick with Terrio unless SLP takes the WGA too.

Yeah, this really looks the most likely scenario. I don't think it'll win either of the Sound category. That'll be either Life of Pi taking both or it'll just win Editing and Les Mis takes Mixing.
