The Gotham Film & Media Institute announced today the nominations in twelve competitive award categories for the 2025 Gotham Television Awards, recognizing a range of series, with Adolescence, The Pitt, The Studio and more topping the list, as well as performances from Kathy Bates, Sterling K. Brown, Ted Danson, Linda Lavin, Cristin Milioti, and Michelle Williams, among others.

For Breakthrough Comedy Series the nominees are #1 Happy Family USA from Prime Video, English Teacher from FX, Fantasmas from HBO, Overcompensating from Prime Video and The Studio from AppleTV+. Fantasmas and Overcompensating‘s stars and creators, Julio Torres and Benito Skinner, respectively, both earned lead performance nominations alongside Ted Danson in A Man on the Inside, Anna Lambe in North of North and Saagar Shaikh, in Deli Boys.

“Building on the success of last year’s inaugural ceremony, the Gotham Television Awards returns with new categories, expanded tributes, and a larger stage to celebrate the creators and artists making their mark on today’s television landscape,” said Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of The Gotham. “As the first awards show of the new television season, we are proud to bring together the industry’s most exciting new voices, celebrate breakthrough achievements, and deepen our commitment to supporting the creative community.”

Breakthrough Drama Series nominees are Black Doves (Netflix), Forever (Netflix), Matlock (CBS), One Hundred Years of Solitude (Netflix) and The Pitt (HBO | Max).

Nominees for the Inaugural Category Performance in an Original Film are Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor in The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat, Dylan O’Brien in Caddo Lake, Aaron Pierre in Rebel Ridge, Phoebe-Rae Taylor, Renée Zellweger in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

The Breakthrough Comedy, Drama, Limited, and Nonfiction Series Awards recognize exceptionally crafted work that pushes the boundaries of creativity in their respective categories. Outstanding Performance Awards will honor outstanding lead and supporting performances in the three Breakthrough fiction series categories (Comedy, Drama, and Limited Series). Additionally, the inaugural category of Outstanding Original Film, Broadcast or Streaming will honor original features aired or transmitted for the first time during the eligibility period on television (network, basic cable, pay cable, pay television, pay-per-view, interactive cable, broadband) or digital distribution through internet streaming platforms.  This will also be the first year The Gotham will honor an outstanding lead or supporting performance in an Original Film.

Nominees were selected by committees of film and television critics, journalists, festival programmers, and film curators. Separate juries of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors, and others directly involved in making television will determine the final Gotham Television Awards recipients.

In addition to announcing the winners, tributes will be given to Amy Sherman Palladino, Daniel Palladino, Hwang Dong-hyuk, as well as others that will be announced in the coming weeks.

At the inaugural 2024 Gotham Television Awards winners included Baby Reindeer, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Colin from Accounts, and Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show. The 2024 ceremony also bestowed tributes on Mariska Hargitay, Peter Morgan, and Lulu Wang. The Gotham 2025 Television Awards Ceremony will be held live and in person at 7PM on Monday, June 2, 2025 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
