2027 Oscar Predictions: SUPPORTING ACTOR (June)

Jeremy Strong caused quite a bit of ruckus when the first trailer for The Social Reckoning arrived last week, portraying Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg. Taking over the reins from Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg, who played Zuckerberg in 2010’s Oscar-winning The Social Network, about the creation of Facebook, Strong’s impersonation feels more in line to his Roy Cohn in 2024’s The Apprentice, which earned him his first Oscar nomination, in this category, no less. Even if the film’s awards fate is less than its predecessor (and there’s pretty much a 100% chance it will be), Strong feels like the one element to eke it out.
I’m still holding off on some TBD titles like Cry to Heaven, the long-awaited directorial return of Tom Ford (A Single Man, Nocturnal Animals), which could factor into the race once it has a festival debut (likely Venice) and a pick up. Elsewhere, speaking of Jesse Eisenberg, his newest film now has a title: The Debut. The A24-distributed musical comedy stars Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti.
La bola negra features a triptych of stories and essentially has three ‘leads’ for each of them, but I think that Netflix will position pop star Guitarricadelafuente in lead and push Carlos González and Milo Quifes here in supporting, alongside Miguel Bernardeau.
Here are my 2027 Oscar nomination predictions in Supporting Actor for June.
