BBC / PBS Masterpiece 6-part adaptation of Les Miserables

Masterpiece is teaming with BBC One on the upcoming six-part event adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel, Les Misérables. The partners have set key cast with Dominic West playing Jean Valjean and David Oyelowo as Javert. Lily Collins has also boarded as Fantine with Adeel Akhtar and Olivia Colman as Monsieur and Madame Thénardier. A co-production from Lookout Point and BBC Studios, the drama begins shooting in February.

Andrew Davies is adapting from the original novel — rather than the musical — delving deep into the many layers of Valjean and Javert’s cat-and-mouse relationship, and set against the epic backdrop of France at a time of civil unrest. Tom Shankland is directing.

Also joining the cast are Ellie Bamber (Nocturnal Animals) as Cosette, Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country) as Marius and Erin Kellyman (Raised By Wolves) as Eponine.

Davies exec produces with Faith Penhale for Lookout Point, Bethan Jones for BBC Studios, Mona Qureshi for BBC One and Rebecca Eaton for Masterpiece. West and Oyelowo have also taken executive producer credits. Chris Carey is producing.

The project was originally to be made in association with The Weinstein Co, but its involvement was scrubbed in October in the wake of the allegations against Harvey Weinstein.

It doesn't yet have a release date for the US so it won't qualify for next years G Globes.

Yes likely to air early 2019 so earliest awards it can qualify are the Emmys.

Christ, the British just ruined this material recently with Tom Hooper.

I'd rather see a French miniseries, en Français.

Didn't watch either but I trust Colman's taste in scripts though. The Night Manager has been her only misstep in recent years and it's likely she took that part for a higher profile.

That "misstep" was highly acclaimed, got a shitload of nominations at the Emmys and the Globes and earned Colman herself her first Golden Globe and first Emmy nomination.

So what are you talking about?
The best movies and shows in a single frame.
    Can you name them?

So what are you talking about?
Oh personal preference. Debicki and Colman were the best parts.

Really looking forward to this. Let's see if Lily Collins has the chops to pull this off. Also, Dominic West and David Oyelowo are perfect casting.
