2019 GRAMMYS: Who Will Be Nominated? - Song of the Year

    Choose eight.

An award for lyrics and melody.

For simplicity's purpose, each track's artist is listed in the poll, rather than the often tedious list of songwriters.

The winner of Song of the Year has matched the winner in Record of the Year six out of the last twelve years.

I thought "God Is A Woman" was submitted instead of "No Tears Left To Cry"?

God Is a Woman was submitted for Record of the Year. No Tears Left to Cry was submitted for this category.

For one, last year, Julia Michaels lost when "Issues" was nominated.

She lost to someone whose breakout single was released in the previous eligibility year.

    Do the math.

(Also, precedents will also be different with 8 nominees now...)

Of the 50 most recent SOTY nominees:
    Hot 100 #1: 21/50
    Top 5 Hits: 32/50
    Top 10 Hits: 36/50
    Top 40 Hits: 47/50
    Pop songs: 31/50

I dont expect the expanded lineup to change the fact that the category overwhelmingly favors big chart hits.

    My Predictions:
    Childish Gambino, This Is America
    Taylor Swift, Delicate
    Drake, Gods Plan
    Cardi B, I Like It
    Maroon 5, Girls Like You
    Bebe Rexha, Meant to Be
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, Shallow
    Ella Mai, Bood Up

    Most Likely Alternatives:
    Kendrick Lamar, All the Stars
Ariana Grande, No Tears Left to Cry
    Keala Settle, This Is Me
    Dan + Shay, Tequila
    Kane Brown, Heaven
    Shawn Mendes, In My Blood
    Khalid, Love Lies
    Zedd, The Middle

    Longshot Chart Flops:
    Kacey Musgraves, High Horse
    Janelle Monae, Make Me Feel
    Florence + the Machine, Hunger
    King Princess, 1950
    Brandi Carlile, The Joke
    HER, My Song (?)

If it gets in anywhere, feels like more of a ROTY nominee?

Apeshit is more ROTY feely. I'd be shocked if it got in SOTY.
