Alfonso Cuarón is headed for his 3rd Editing nomination, which will make him the director with the most nominations for Film Editing.

Not always. Many scenes with quite a lot of cuts, some even constructed to create meaning and effect via editing.

And also... It should always be kept in mind that editing is not just about cuts, but also timing. Roma is excellent in that sense, like all Cuarón films.

That didn't change them being top five. The Favourite doesn't have this either but it's top five so it'll make it regardless.

The Favourite editor was nominated at ACE for The Lobster. The problem with your take is that it assumes "top 3 in bp" is the only thing pushing those films into the editing noms. It's also that they're edited by previous guild and Oscar nominees, that there is nothing particular about the film editing styles that would deter support (like Birdman's one take thing deterred) and that in all three cases the editing is rather flashy (in Roma's case "flashy" might be a bad term, but the editing is a noticeable craft imo). Get Out probably should have been nominated. Lady Bird was correctly not.

Forgot about The Lobster. Well considering the wording of the way you said it made it seem like them being the assumed top 3 in BP (Favourite, ASIB and Roma) were enough to make them locks in the category. Get Out could've been nominated but there were passionate voters around Baby Driver which could've possibly won and ditto for I, Tonya.

Last season was kind of rough for me, so I still take great pride in calling that one four months beforehand.
