    I think Eight Grade is a little more in the writers branch’s wheelhouse, but there will surely be a lot of sentiment for Schrader. Most especially among the writers who grew up on/being inspired by the likes of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.

    The writing branch is very insular, even if the rest of the Academy doesn't bother with First Reformed, and if A24 keeps pushing Schrader's narrative, they won't resist. Hawke is probably winning something big too with critics, doesn't hurt.
