They’re the only critics group large enough to show consensus support that falls in line with the Oscars. The last 2 years, 8 of the 9 BP nominees at Oscar showed up on BFCA’s top 10. They were the only group to nominate Darkest Hour for best picture until it showed up at BAFTA. Most AWers had considered its best picture chances dead at this point in the race.

First Man certainly benefited from expanded nomination slots in the writing, directing, and acting categories at BFCA, but it also managed to get nominated in Production Design, Cinematography, Film Editing, Visual Effects and Score where there were only 5 nominees.

Even if it fails to get nominated for picture and acting, it’s a strong contender for many craft nominations and its strongest plays are the sound categories and film editing.

They try to predict the Oscars and can't even correctly predict what the 5 nominees will be when they include 7 of their own (they failed in all categories except Actress last year). I've looked at the history of their editing nominees, and they only get 3/5 correct on average, no different than many other groups. They also included 6 nominees for the category this year, not 5 as you say. I think they are going to be wrong about First Man, Widows, The Favourite, and maybe even Roma.

Looking back over the nominees from the past 10 years, every year, your top 3 BP films make it here, which means 3 of 4 of A Star Is Born, Roma, Black Panther and The Favourite are likely to show up here, if not all 4.

    LOCK:
    1. A Star is Born

    LIKELY IN:
    2. Roma
    3. Black Panther
    4. The Favourite

    WHO GETS THE LAST SPOT?:

    5. BlacKKKlansman (strongest film of the remaining contenders)
    6. First Man (under performing)
    7. Vice (reviews mixed)
    8. Widows (no1 curr)
    9. Mission: Impossible - Fallout (in play, showy work)

How A Star is Born a lock? It's the most criticized aspect of the film. Blackkklansman, Black Panther, Roma and Vice are all more likeky.

Lol I think I'm just going to commit to Mission Impossible sneaking in. It would honestly seem weird to me if after the huge amount of acclaim including from within the industry, if it got no recognition. And a lot of the big players don't entirely make sense here. I still feel like First Man makes it, too, and also that Vice may just be too divisive.

    So,

    A Star is Born
    Mission: Impossible: Fallout
    First Man
    Black Panther

And one of Roma, The Favourite, or BlacKkKlansman.

Okay feel free to tell me how dumb I am. Keeping in mind the Baby Driver and I, Tonya nods, though!

It's not that weird if you notice that it still doesn't have an FYC page. Paramount is literally only campaigning for A Quiet Place: http://www.paramountguilds.com/

This category will be once again, one of the toughest to predict (nominations)
