It's hard to tell which of these left-field choices will inevitably be included.

    For now I'll say
    Free Solo
Hale County This Morning, This Evening
    Minding the Gap
    On Her Shoulders
    Three Identical Strangers

The Silence of Others is produced by Almodóvar. Not sure if this could be a push. I don't think so.

I went with Dark Money over Three Identical Strangers, which might be a mistake but it seems like usually there's a snub in categories like Foreign Film and Doc.

I picked Dark Money specifically because that film ended up sticking around in random independent theaters in the DC area. Usually when that happens for a film it goes on my radar as a potential surprise nominee. Or maybe it was just popular in DC because of politics.

I won't complain about anything about this year's Oscars if Shirkers gets in.

I think it has to get in if Netflix campaigns for it. It's not too artsy, and the subject (female filmmakers) feels timely.

I feel like Dark Money could surprise and even maybe win oscar. It's exactly the thriller they like here (Icarus, Inside Job, CitizenFour). Reviews are not great (72 MC) but Icarus got even worse (68)

Icarus was likely the most watched docu of the year thanks to Netflix.

This is clearly Won't You Be My Neighbor's Oscar if the branch won't snub it, it's one of the biggest BO hits ever among the documentaries and the subject is Oscar friendly.

I feel like RBG is just going to be a check for so many people, no matter the quality of the thing.

They can just nominate it in song (Diane Warren) and called it a day

I just watched Minding The Gap and now its nomination in this category is basically the only thing I care about.

Doubt that's happening, but I'd love it.

I've seen four of the likely nominees (Neighbor, Strangers, RBG and Minding the Gap) and the latter is better than almost all three combined.
