I think First Man will get snubbed at ACE and that will be the end of the FM predictions here. ACE rarely nominates PGA snubbed movies in Drama, since the BP expansion they only nominated BR2049 and The Force Awakens after PGA snubs.

2017: Blade Runner 2049 - ACE Drama snubbed PGA nominees: Call Me by Your Name, Wonder Woman
2015: The Force Awakens - ACE Drama snubbed PGA nominees: Bridge of Spies, Ex Machina, Spotlight, Straight Outta Compton

I am not sure if these two work for First Man, one was a huge BO hit that got an Oscar Editing nomination in the end, and the other didn't have much competition for the final spot, Wonder Woman was a really weak contender. I am assuming everyone is predicting strong BP contenders like ASIB, Panther, Roma, and Klansman in ACE Drama, there's no reason for them to miss, and after that there's A Quiet Place with showy horror editing and a potentially much stronger guild run with PGA, WGA and SAG acting noms than what First Man will have. And don't forget, AQP also has an Oscar nominated editor.

First Man made sooooo much sense as a winner at one point. Now it might not even be nominated.

This feels like such a weird category without it, but the movie has absolutely sucked every step of the way, from box office to critics' notices to GG nods, so I guess the snub makes plenty of sense.

But then, what wins? AMPAS voters always go for the showy editing, the suspenseful vibe, and a BP nomination is a must unless your competition is, like, The Artist and The Descendants. But of the contenders this year, what fits this bill? The only thing that really comes to mind is A Quiet Place, which really could nab a BP nod in the end.

Panther is the other one, of course. If First Man can't even get the nod, then I strongly believe it's between these two.

    First Man or Roma.

Suspense is key to winning this category. If the film doesn't have that in spades, it's not winning. It should have tipped off everyone that Hacksaw Ridge would win over La La Land, that Whiplash would win over Boyhood, and that Girl with the Dragon Tattoo would win over Descendants and The Artist.

With that in mind, the only films that I'd consider seriously for the win are BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther, First Man, and Mission: Impossible- Fallout.

Some could argue that Widows and A Quiet Place would also qualify here, but they are just too weak here. Widows will be completely shut out and nobody has really talked about A Quiet Place's editing.

I hope ACE clears things up. Hard to tell how this category will go at the moment.

Starting to believe Bohemian Rhapsody can win this...

First Man might not make ACE, will not get a BP nom
Roma isn’t particularly showy and consists of long takes
Green Book isn’t showy, would be lucky to get nominated
Star Is Born weakens by the day. Could very well just win Song
Vice can win ACE but movie is still divisive as well as the editing

What’s even left? Black Panther is the biggest alternate

I have to say Dirk's BR Editing win prediction was a great call. I have to watch the movie, but if it's indeed showy, it will likely win this Oscar.

BR is getting nominated, the whole Live Aid sequence has amazing editing, so much that it probably is winning. I do think The Favourite is getting nominated but instead of what i don't know. Most likely in place of BKKK

    A pretty easy update:

    - First Man
    - Vice
    - A Star is Born
    - Roma
    - Bohemian Rhapsody

With BlacKkKlansman as an alternate choice.

That "suspense!" trend plays against a BR win, and what was the last biopic to win this category? But with BP out of the race admittedly the pickings are slim. Maybe BKK, or First Man could pull a Dragon Tattoo, if it does well in the tech awards.

John Ottman has been due a nom since The Usual Suspects so him getting nom is fine.

People think The Favourite will get in over Blackkklansman. Keep on overestimating it I guess.
