I’ll still be amazed if Sony can get three films in here based on their history, but they’re all looking/situated pretty good. Early tea on Beautiful Day is good, the Hollywood trailer seemed to generate a good response and portends well that they’re taking it to Cannes well in advance of release with a sizeable investment to return. Plus, it’s hard to see the industry rejecting an emotional movie about women and by a woman in the current climate (Little Women).

Yeah. It’s tough. I think at least 2 get in but as of now I’ll predict 3. I do fear Neighborhood might be a bit too basic and the Rhys character too alienating for audiences compared to Hanks. Could have passion issues. But buzz is high + possible TIFF contender.

    In no particular order:

    1. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
    2. The Irishman
    3. Lucy in the Sky
    4. Jojo Rabbit
    5. The Report
    6. The Laundromat
    7. The Aeronauts
    8. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
    9. Cats
    10. Just Mercy

I originally had The Souvenir in, but that looks more likely to pull off a lone Screenplay nod like its fellow A24 films The Lobster and First Reformed.

ETA: I accidentally had The Report twice; replaced it with Just Mercy.

Why would Souvenir get Screenplay when it’s not highly conceptual and Hogg isn’t a big name like Schrader or Lanthimos

Nothing feels like a winner to me. Maybe something that isn’t on our radar currently emerges in the festivals. I don’t buy Jojo Rabbit pulling it off, especially only a year after a very controversial contender did and I feel like Hollywood may be a bit too divisive.

also, we already know Mister Rogers doesn't resonate with most people/members outside of the US. No1curr about the doc, no1curr about this either.
