Forum Oscar Poll Results: June 2016 – Billy Lynn Makes a Move, Meryl Streep Sings a Familiar Tune

The Forum Oscar Poll Results for June 2016 are in and we’re starting to see some changes over the first few months. Although Silence is still holding onto the #1 spot in Best Picture (as is Martin Scorsese in Best Director), Ang Lee and his Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk is within spitting distance of the pole position in both categories. A strong teaser trailer definitely helped boost the film. Once Silence starts revealing, well, anything, I’m sure that will also result in a higher (or possibly lower) confidence in the film. Fences lands in the top 5 for the first time and stars Denzel Washington and Viola Davis both top the Best Actor and Actress list. Washington also shows up in Best Director for the first time.
After its slightly muted response at Cannes, Loving and its director Jeff Nichols, tumble a bit but its stars (Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga) remain strong contenders. Lion moves up one in Best Picture and Supporting Actress contender Nicole Kidman goes from #9 to #4 this month. Elsewhere in Supporting Actress, Moonlight‘s Naomie Harris moves up and a second Kristen Stewart performance (Café Society) hits the top 10.
One of the biggest moves of the month is 19-time Oscar nominee and 3-time winner Meryl Streep in Best Actress. Her performance in Florence Foster Jenkins moves her up five spots from #8 to #3. Great reviews and a late summer release date could spell success for Streep once again and it’s never, ever good to count her out until the last minute. Best Actor and Supporting Actor both see three new entries this month; in Best Actor there’s newcomer Joe Alywn (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk), and a pair of nominees last year – Bryan Cranston (Wakefield) and Michael Fassbender (The Light Between Oceans). in Supporting Actor we have Warren Beatty in the newly titles Rules Don’t Apply (which he also directs), Mahershala Ali in Moonlight and Hugh Grant in Florence Foster Jenkins.
Here are the Forum Oscar Poll Results for June 2016 with handy dandy color codes for films (green is up, red is down), directors and performances that have gone up or down since last month.
