Maestro and Saltburn were the big winners at the 11th Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild (IATSE Local 706) awards ceremony Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Maestro won two of its three categories: Best Period and/or Character Makeup and Best Special Makeup Effects, beating out Poor Things – which just won the BAFTA for makeup and hair this weekend – in both areas.

Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn won the hairstyling and makeup awards in the contemporary categories, besting the likes of nominations leader Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which went home empty-handed.

Golda, Maestro, Oppenheimer, Poor Things and Society of the Snow are the five films nominated for the Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar.

In television, the award for best special makeup effects went to The Last of Us. Other winners in TV while Dancing With the Stars and Saturday Night Live were won multiple awards.

Oscar-nominated actor Annette Bening was honored with the Distinguished Artisan award. However, due to COVID, her real-life counterpart in NYAD, long distance swimmer Diana Nyad, accepted the award on her behalf.

Michael Westmore, Oscar and Emmy-winning make-up artist known for his iconic work on Rocky, Star Trek, Mask and Raging Bull, was honored with the Vanguard Award. Kevin Haney, Oscar- and Emmy-winning make-up artist best known for his work on Driving Miss Daisy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Hocus Pocus 2; and Ora T. Green, Emmy-nominated hair stylist known for her work on Star Trek: Nemesis, Blade and Good Times, received the group’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.
