The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has announced its feature film and documentary nominees for screenwriting and they include 1917, Little Women, Booksmart and Jojo Rabbit, among others.
The WGA is often a funky guild in terms of Oscar predicting as many frontrunners aren’t even eligible. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood just won the Golden Globe for screenplay last night but writer Quentin Tarantino is not a WGA member and guild guidelines are strict. Other films not eligible were The Farewell, Pain and Glory, Waves, Clemency and Toy Story 4.
Last year the WGA winners were Can You Ever Forgive Me? (adapted) and Eighth Grade (original) with only the former turning it into an Oscar nomination. BlacKkKlansman and Green Book went on to win the Oscars in these respective categories.
Winners will be announced on February 1 at simultaneous events on both coasts. Here is the full list of nominations.
