2016 Emmys: Drama Series, Comedy Series, TV Movie, Limited Series Predictions (June)

In Drama Series, Jonathan is the lone wolf predicting Mr. Robot to score a nod where everyone else has Homeland continuing its Drama Series comeback from last year. In Comedy Series, Jonathan and myself break out from the pack to predict a shocking Modern Family snub and see Mom taking its place. It’s a risky prediction, to be sure, but after five Comedy Series wins in a row Modern Family was finally vanquished last year by Veep and the show’s total Emmy nomination take was also severely diminished. This could be the year it gets dropped.
TV Movie only has three locks according to the Emmy Experts; All the Way, Confirmation and Sherlock: The Abominable Bride. The last feels a bit precarious since buzz over Sherlock is at an absolute zero compared to the early seasons. The last two spots seem to be a battle between four movies: The Dresser, Luther, Special Correspondents and A Very Murray Christmas.
Limited Series is ripe for some upset in the form of just how many “American” minis will make it in. The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story is not in question but previous nominees American Crime and American Horror Story are. The former made it in its first season last year and the latter has made it in every year that it’s been on the air (four seasons so far). Fargo doesn’t seem in danger of losing a spot to any of those as its second season was even better received than the first. Where it gets messy is a showdown between Roots, The Night Manager and Show Me a Hero. Among the Emmy Experts this is the most unsettled category. With five predictors we have four different sets of predictions so this will be a great contest.
