The 2016 Golden Raspberry (aka the Razzies) nominations are out and they include two things they include almost every year: a current Oscar contender and Adam Sandler. You can always count on Adam Sandler showing up here with copious amounts of nominations (too bad he doesn’t have the sense of humor to show up to the awards like past winners Sandra Bullock and Halle Berry) and this year is no different. Between Pixels and The Cobbler, Sandler’s films racked up eight nominations. I’m genuinely surprised they didn’t find a way to include his Netflix movie The Ridiculous Six.
Top nomination totals went to Fifty Shades of Grey, Jupiter Ascending, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, Pixels, all with six each.
Also in the mix are two Oscar contenders this year; Rooney Mara and Eddie Redmayne. Here Mara is up for Worst Supporting Actress for the appropriately titled Pan and Redmayne for his supporting turn in Jupiter Ascending (although I’d argue he’s much worse in The Danish Girl). Redmayne won the Oscar for Best Actor last year. Julianne Moore, who won the Best Actress Oscar last year is up for Worst Supporting Actress for The Seventh Son. Razzie nom champ Fifty Shades of Grey is also a potential Oscar nominee in Original Song.
The Razzie Redeemer (voted on by the public) lists Elizabeth Banks, M. Night Shyamalan, Will Smith and Razzie king Sylvester Stallone (who seems like a shoe-in) to earn back your cinematic respect.
