2018 Razzie Awards Nominations: Brace Your Sinks

The 38th edition of the Raspberry Awards (aka the Razzies) have announced their nominations for the worst in 2017 film and the list is not without a few surprises, both in what made the list and what didn’t.
Jennifer Lawrence, a four-time Oscar nominee and winner for Silver Linings Playbook, landed her first Razzie today for mother! The incredibly divisive film, which earned an F CinemaScore rating, was also nominated for Worst Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem, another Oscar winner) and Worst Director for Darren Aronofsky. It’s a dubious trio of nominations, really, as the film may have been divisive among audiences but was less so with critics. It has a 75 on Metacritic and a 69% on Rotten Tomatoes, hardly ‘worst of’ territory.
There is a new edition in Jeff Beachnau’s hilarious Worst Picture/Best Picture series on the way where he takes the Razzie Worst Picture winner and Oscar’s Best Picture winner and mashes them up in a contrast and compare review. Check them out here.
Overall, Transformers XVII: The Last Knight led with nine nominations in total. Fifty Shades Darker comes in a close second with eight, while The Mummy has a total of seven. The Razzie Awards will be handed out, as they always are, the day before the Oscars – March 3rd.
