2022 Creative Arts Emmy Night Two: ‘The White Lotus’ wins big, ‘Abbott Elementary’ takes home key award in comedy race
It’s the second night of the Creative Arts Emmys, Night Two taking place eight days before the Primetime Emmys. Night Two saw 48 winners across categories such as casting, cinematography, picture editing, sound mixing and costumes/hairstyling.
Night Two featured a plethora of presenters for the categories, presenters including Jane Levy, Colman Domingo, Marcia Gay Harden, Randy Rainbow, Skyler Astin, Christine Chiu and Kevin Kreider, Jon Heurtas, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, Simone Missick, and Niecy Nash, amongst others.
Night Two follows a successful first night of the Emmys, giving out awards across categories that feature reality series, competition programs and non-fiction/documentary series. Adele: One Night Only took home all five Emmy awards it was nominated for (which makes Adele a Tony away from an EGOT). The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show also scored a few wins, including Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special and Outstanding Music Direction. Arcane took home the award for Outstanding Animated Program.
Coming into the ceremony were a few series that had many nominations each, some with much to prove. Going into the Creative Arts Emmys, Succession had garnered 25 nominations in total (with 14 being performance nominations!). Succession ended up winning Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series before the night was over. Ted Lasso and The White Lotus both tallied up 20 nominations each, but Lasso was largely ignored during Night Two of the Creative Arts Emmys, while The White Lotus won a few awards, including the crucial Outstanding Casting for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Instead of Lasso, Abbott Elementary was the series that took home Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, a crucial precursor in its campaign to win Outstanding Comedy Series.
Severance took home a couple of awards, winning the awards for Outstanding Main Title Design and Outstanding Music Composition for a Series. Euphoria did very well tonight, as well, taking home multiple across boards in categories such as Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming, Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup and Outstanding Single Camera Picture Editing for a Drama.
In what could be considered the closest to Primetime Emmy Awards, the Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress categories awarded four performers from four different series: Colman Domingo wins Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Euphoria; Lee You-mi wins Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Squid Game; Nathan Lane wins Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in Only Murders in the Building; Laurie Metcalf wins Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Hacks. All of these performers will be recognized at the Primetime Emmys ceremony next Monday.
