2022 Emmy Predictions: Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
There are only six slots in the category for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and with Limited Series becoming increasingly popular every year, there are more and more actors to possibly fill these spots. The category’s inclusion of both Limited Series and Television Movies means there are even more actors every year vying for a spot when the nominations are announced.
Starting with the easy “lock” of this category is Murray Bartlett of The White Lotus. Bartlett has already been nominated this year for both the Screen Actors Guild award and the Critics’ Choice Award (winning the Critics’ Choice Award). This puts Bartlett in a prime spot to be the frontrunner of the category, so it will be no surprise when he’s nominated. Peter Sarsgaard is close behind Bartlett and will likely also be nominated for his performance in Hulu’s Dopesick. Sarsgaard has never been nominated for an Emmy before, but this seems like the year that will finally change. Another big name in this category is Naveen Andrews, who delivered a striking performance in another Hulu limited series, The Dropout. Andrews hasn’t been nominated for an Emmy since 2005 for his role in Lost, but with so much buzz surrounding the series, he’s very likely to earn his second Emmy nom this year.
There are several other contenders to keep an eye out for in this category. Seth Rogen delivered a great performance for his role in Pam and Tommy and could very likely land him his first Emmy nom for acting. Another actor to keep in mind is Nick Robinson, who starred in Netflix’s Maid. Robinson has been close to receiving a nom before for his performance in A Teacher, but the odds are looking more and more likely that he’ll receive his first nomination this year. He faces stiff competition, though, so it will be a long road to the nomination. Another actor in the mix is O-T Fagbenle, who just received his first Emmy nomination last year for The Handmaid’s Tale. Fagbenle will be competing for a nom for his role in The First Lady; the series has received critical backlash for some of its performances, but Fagbenle is not one of those performances and could very well end up hearing his name when nominations are announced. Two-time Emmy winner and 15-time nominee William H. Macy will also be competing in the category for his role in The Dropout.
