2023 Oscar Predictions: FILM EDITING (November)
The American Cinema Editors nominations don’t come out until February 1, pretty far into the season, and until then we’ll have a smattering of critics groups (including Critics’ Choice and Hollywood Critics Association) that will help guide us but history has showed us the connection between Film Editing and Best Picture more recently Film Editing and Sound. Last year, CODA sidestepped all rules to miss both and still win Best Picture but that’s the exception, not the rule.
The last nine years in a row has given us the eventual film editing winner also winning sound (or a sound award before the merged once again) and all were also nominated for Best Picture. Even 2012’s Best Picture winner Argo, which also won film editing, was at nominated in sound. But we’re just at the pre-nomination stage, with Oscar noms not for more than two months, January 24.
Here are my 2023 Oscar predictions in Film Editing for November.
