2024 Emmys: Weekly Predictions in Drama, Comedy and Limited Series Categories
Another week closer to this season’s Emmy deadline and the race is heating up. For Your Consideration campaigns are beginning for Emmy contenders across every category now that we’re about a month away from nominations. Prime Video began a huge campaign for its series this week, and Netflix’s annual FYSEE events kicked off to promote its shows like Griselda, The Crown and Ripley and it’s only just beginning.
Not much has changed in my predictions since last week, but it must be noted that Baby Reindeer has made quite an impact on audiences in the past week. Will the series be able to show up on nominations morning in such a competitive arena? It seems likely! Breakout star Jessica Gunning has the best chance of a performance nomination for her role as Martha on the series, but the show could find itself in the top category as well. Netflix will surely push this series to get even more eyes on it in the coming weeks. No changes in drama or comedy for now, either, as campaigns are ramping up and we’ll soon see top priorities from different networks and streamers. All eyes will be on series like Shōgun, Palm Royale, and The Curse, first-season (possibly late in some cases) shows hoping to make a big impact this year.
According to rumors, FX might shift Shōgun into the drama categories soon as the green light of second season of the series is looming. With six books in the classic James Clavell and critical acclaim, it’s not hard to see it happen. Reservation Dogs and Curb Your Enthusiasm will both be competing in the comedy categories for their final seasons, Curb being no stranger to the Emmys. With several series opting for weird category decisions (I’m a Virgo in comedy stands out, as does The Curse taking its chances in drama), it will be more different than ever before. It’s fascinating to see a year so thrown off by the strikes last year as well as it being a year where series like the aforementioned HBO show are now off the air.
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will honor the best in American prime time television programming from June 1, 2023, until May 31, 2024, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The entry deadline for all materials is May 9.
First round voting for the nomination stage begins June 13 and goes through June 24 at 10pm PT. Nominations are announced July 17 and the winner round of voting lasts from August 15 to 26 at 10pm PT. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards and Governors Gala will be held on September 7 and 8. The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California on September 15.
