2024 Oscar Predictions: SUPPORTING ACTRESS (December)
With Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations in hand, we have a rather solid top five in Supporting Actress with Da’Vine Joy Randolph in The Holdovers, Emily Blunt in Oppenheimer, Danielle Brooks in The Color Purple, Jodie Foster in Nyad and Julianne Moore in May December. With six spots at each of these places we got outsider nominations for Rosamund Pike in Saltburn at the Globes and America Ferrera in Barbie at CCA. SAG and BAFTA (to a lesser extent, probably) will tell us of this five is the five or if there is room to spoil.
At the end of the day this could be the most ‘it’s an honor just being nominated’ category of the night as Randolph is headed for one of the most historic critics’ sweeps in history. The actress has yet to miss a supporting actress win (she shared her LAFCA win with Rachel McAdams) and her only loss came at the Gothams in a non-gendered group of ten nominees where Charles Melton (May December) won. She’ll face him again, and in a non-gendered category, at the Spirit Awards in March.
The Golden Globes awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024. The Screen Actors Guild will reveal their nominations on January 10 and the 30th SAG Awards will be held on February 24. Oscar nominations will be announced on January 23 and the 96th Academy Awards will be held on March 10.
