2026 Oscar Predictions: COSTUME DESIGN and PRODUCTION DESIGN (December)

Since we were here last we’ve had nominations from Critics Choice (CCA) and the Costume Designers Guild (CDG) to help guide the path for that category and CCA for production design.
The CCA/CDG crossover gives us the main frontrunners here in Frankenstein, Wicked: For Good, Hamnet and Sinners with Hedda showing surprising strength. Two shocking misses at CDG were the two most-rewarded living designers, Colleen Atwood for Kiss of the Spider Woman (although she did get in for One Battle After Another in the less competitive contemporary category) and Sandy Powell for Snow White. Had Powell secured a spot here her 16th Oscar nomination would practically be set in stone as she’s never missed when she’s nominated by the CDG first. But alas, it is not to be. Atwood isn’t out of it yet, but for now I’m sticking with the CCA/CDG five. But, Marty Supreme is right around the corner and obviously, if One Battle After Another massively overperforms on nomination morning, that rare contemporary costume design nomination is in sight.
We won’t have Set Decorators Society Of America nominations until January 5 and Art Directors Guild (ADG) nominations until January 7 and Set Decorators so until then we have CCA and instincts. Don’t think there’s any need to budge from the same top 5 I had in November but again, as in costume design, keeping an eye out for One Battle to blow up and get in here too.
Here are my 2026 Oscar nomination predictions in Costume Design and Production Design for December.
