25th Anniversary of David Fincher’s ‘Fight Club’ to be Celebrated by Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) with Screening and Conversation with Sound Designer Ren Klyce
Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE), the premier organization of entertainment sound editing professionals since 1953, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of David Fincher’s groundbreaking film Fight Club on October 27 with a special event that includes a screening of the film, followed by an in-depth conversation with the film’s sound designer, Ren Klyce.
A sonic visionary renowned for his collaborations with filmmaker David Fincher, Ren Klyce is a master sound designer whose intricate and evocative soundscapes have elevated countless films to new heights. With meticulous attention to detail and a passion for pushing the boundaries of sonic storytelling, Klyce’s work has left an indelible mark on the world of cinema. His vast filmography includes several films with Fincher including Seven, The Killer, Mank, Gone Girl, The Social Network, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Panic Room, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Other notable credits include Toy Story 4, Finding Neverland, Where the Wild Things Are, Inside Out, and Inside Out 2, among many others.
Fight Club was released on October 15, 1999 by Fox 2000 and New Regency Pictures. Directed by Academy Award nominee David Fincher and starring two-time Academy Award winner Brad Pitt, Academy Award nominee Edward Norton, and Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter, the film has been praised for its intense performances, stylish visuals, and thought-provoking themes, along with the craftsmanship behind-the-camera that included Klyce’s sound contributions, for which he was nominated for a MPSE Golden Reel Award and an Oscar.
The invitation-only event, hosted by MPSE Vice President Eric Marks at IMRSV Sound in Berkeley, CA, is part of the MPSE’s ongoing “MPSE Presents” screening series, which highlights sound achievements in film, television, and games with special events in cities across the globe.
