30th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards Nomination Predictions – Television: How Many Nods Can ‘Succession’ Get?
With nominations coming from SAG-AFTRA soon celebrating the performances of 2023 in both television and film, it’s time to look at the possibilities in the tv categories.
Succession is poised to have quite an award season in the coming weeks (since the Emmys are happening this month due to the strikes), and SAG nominations will prove its power. Succession receiving five individual acting nominations might seem crazy (and it is), but the love for this series is deep enough to warrant the thought that it could happen. The final season of HBO’s drama proved that its actors are amongst the best working today, and their peers will certainly shower them with adoration come nomination morning. The Last of Us will likely receive some love for its terrific first season and its leading duo, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. The Morning Show’s antics will not stop SAG-AFTRA from giving its actors some love; while the series sent Reese Witherspoon to space, it will be Jennifer Aniston that SAG sends the nomination.
The Bear will likely make a big mark in the comedy categories coming off an incredibly well-performed second season. It would be a shock for the series to miss after its “Fishes” episode that paraded in guest stars like a Thanksgiving parade of well-known stars. Jury Duty deserves a nomination in the ensemble category for the actors dedication to their roles and not breaking in front of Ronald Gladden for the entirety of the experiment and, honestly, a win. Only Murders will come back to take its seat in the ensemble category, while Meryl Streep will almost assuredly get herself a nomination for her fantastic performance in the show’s third season. Barry and Ted Lasso will battle it out as last-season series that have fizzled out when it comes to awards attention, but the former might have the edge to get the nom.
The limited series categories will see Beef leads Steven Yeun and Ali Wong take their place before their presumed eventual wings in the categories. Stars like Brie Larson from Lessons in Chemistry and Jon Hamm in Fargo will probably find footing amongst their peers to jumpstart a campaign that could help them later this year at the Emmys (the 2024 Emmys happening in September, not to be confused with the 2024 Emmys happening in January representing the 2022/2023 season). Daisy Jones & the Six will also likely grab at least one individual nomination for Riley Keough, but Sam Claflin seems like a likely choice for Actor in a Limited Series.
Award-winning actor, singer, producer, writer, and director Barbra Streisand will be the 59th recipient of SAG-AFTRA’s highest tribute: the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments.
Nominations for the SAG Awards will be announced on January 10, 2024. The 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024. The two-hour ceremony will be streamed live on Netflix at 8 p.m. (ET) / 5 p.m. (PT) from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall.
