31st Critics Choice Awards Nominations: ‘Sinners’ Leads with 17, ‘One Battle After Another’ Earns 14
The Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced today the nominees for the 31st annual Critics Choice Awards where Ryan Coogler’s Sinners leads the film contenders with 17 nominations, nearly matching the record of 18 that Barbie achieved two years ago.
Sinners collected a nod for Best Picture, while cast members Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Miles Caton are up for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Young Actor / Actress respectively. Ryan Coogler was recognized in the categories of Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, and the film also received nods for Best Casting and Ensemble, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Hair and Makeup, Best Visual Effects, Best Stunt Design, Best Song, Best Score, and Best Sound.
One Battle After Another followed closely behind Sinners, earning 14 nominations, followed by Frankenstein and Hamnet with 11 apiece.
After earning 11 nominations for the first film last year and a Best Director win for Jon M. Chu, Wicked‘s sequel Wicked: For Good came in at seven, including Chu and star Cynthia Erivo missing the cut. Ariana Grande, also a nominee last year, did earn another one this year.
Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value also earned seven nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director and four acting nods, but curiously missed out on the group’s Foreign Language Film. Those nominees were: It Was Just an Accident (its only nod), Left-Handed Girl, No Other Choice, The Secret Agent, Sirāt and Belén.

The 31st Critics Choice Awards hosted once again by Chelsea Handler and will broadcast live on January 4 on E! and USA Network from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.
