52nd NAACP Image Awards: ‘Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey,’ ‘black-ish,’ Beyoncé lead nominations
Netflix’s Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey was the nomination leader for the 52nd NAACP Image Awards in the film categories, announced on Tuesday morning by Anika Noni-Rose, Chloe Bailey, Erika Alexander and Nicco Annan and TC Carson via the NAACP Instagram.
The NAACP Image Awards recognize achievements of BIPOC artists across TV, music, film and literature.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (also Netflix) was next up with 8 nominations. Da 5 Bloods (Netflix again) came in with 5, One Night in Miami (Amazon Studios) earned 4. All are Outstanding Motion Picture nominees alongside Bad Boys For Life from Columbia Pictures. Some high profile, late-breaking BIPOC films were missing from the nomination list today, likely due to eligibility and timing, including Judas and the Black Messiah, The United States vs Billie Holiday and Malcolm & Marie.
black-ish led the television nominations with 9, followed by Insecure with 5 and freshman series P-Valley with 5.
In the music categories, Beyoncé led with 6 followed by Ledisi and Chloe x Halle with 5 apiece.
The org’s Entertainer of the Year nominees are D-Nice, Regina King, Viola Davis, Trevor Noah and Tyler Perry. The nominees for a new award, the Social Impact honor, are April Ryan, Debbie Allen, Lebron James, Stacey Abrams and Tamika Mallory.
The 52nd NAACP Image Awards will be simulcast across all ViacomCBS Networks including BET, CBS and MTV on Saturday, March 27th at 8pm ET. Here is the full list of film nominations.
