75th Primetime Emmy Awards Winner Predictions: Will ‘Succession’ Reign Once Again? Can ‘The Bear’ Serve Comedy Wins?
The Emmys are finally upon us, in January 2024, in the middle of film awards season. Television people continue to stand strong after waiting months for the Emmys to finally happen so that they can happen, once again, in eight months from now.
Succession will easily have the biggest showing of the night, bulldozing through categories like Directing, Writing, Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Drama. The final season of the HBO drama was arguably its best, with a water cooler vibe that created a phenomenon around watching the show. It won’t be surprising when the drama sweeps most of the drama categories with ease. If there’s any competition for HBO’s drama, it’s… another HBO drama. The Last of Us took home eight awards at the first night of the Creative Arts Emmys, including both Guest Actor and Guest Actress in a Drama Series (for Nick Offerman and Storm Reid, respectively). It probably won’t be able to beat Succession, but it will put up a good fight. Jennifer Coolidge seems an easy pick for Supporting Actress in a Drama for season two of another HBO drama, The White Lotus. If anything, HBO is the clear winner here overall once again.
The Bear looks to dominate the comedy categories with a clear path for Jeremy Allen White to win his first Emmy for Lead Actor in a Comedy. Ayo Edebiri competes in Supporting Actress in a Comedy and has a good chance of winning if voters responded to her performance in season one of The Bear more than current reigning winner Sheryl Lee Ralph, who turned in more excellent work in season two of Abbott Elementary. Supporting Actor in a Comedy seems to come down to Ebon Moss-Bachrach from The Bear or James Marsden in Jury Duty, but with the also huge response to Freevee’s judicial comedy, James Marsden might have the edge in this category. The Bear will likely also take the Writing and Directing for a Comedy Series awards, both going to series creator Christopher Storer.
The Limited Series categories are going to have a lot of Beef in them, with the series most likely to win the Best Limited or Anthology Series award. While both lead performances stand a good chance of taking home awards, Ali Wong stands out further in her category. Steven Yeun will find competition from Evan Peters from Dahmer; Peters being a previous Emmy winner only helps his chances in the vote. It would be surprising if Beef didn’t win the Directing and Writing awards for the Limited Series categories with the love it’s gotten since its premiere last year. Fleishman is in Trouble has a few nominations going into the ceremony, but will likely leave empty handed when the night is over.
The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are set air at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on Monday, January 15 on FOX and be hosted by Anthony Anderson.
