2024 Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC): ‘Anora’ Wins Best Picture, Director, Actress; Timothée Chalamet Named Best Actor for ‘A Complete Unknown’

The Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC) has revealed the winners of their 45th annual awards and Sean Baker’s Anora was the runway hit, taking Best Film, Actress for Mikey Madison plus Director and Original Screenplay for Baker.
Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan and Edward Norton as Pete Seeger in A Complete Unknown were the Best Actor and Supporting Actor winners, respectively, and Danielle Deadwyler’s turn in the adaptation of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson earned her Best Supporting Actress.
The Brutalist was a double winner, for Score and Cinematography, while Challengers won Editing and Nickel Boys won Adapted Screenplay.
The BSFC votes for Best Picture before Best Non-English Language Film. If the winner of Best Picture is not in the English language, the group foregoes the latter category and votes instead for Best English Language Film. As that didn’t happen this year, the winner for Best Non-English Language Film is Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World.
Last year, The Holdovers won four awards from the group, Best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay.
