Teaser for Ari Aster’s Cannes-Bound COVID Era ‘Eddington’ Looks at the Crumbling U.S. Political Landscape of 2020

Last week, the Cannes Film Festival announced the lineup for its 78th edition where Eddington, the next film from Ari Aster (Midsommar, Hereditary, Beau is Afraid), was slotted for an in competition slot and today A24 has released the first teaser for the film.
Set at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in May 2020, in just one minute the teaser details Joaquin Phoenix as a conservative sheriff in Eddington, New Mexico, Pedro Pascal as his Democrat opponent, Austin Butler as would be proselytizer, Emma Stone as his denying wife and more.
Examining electoral conspiracies amid the first Trump presidency, the film looks at the rise of everything from the Black Lives Matter movement to ANTIFA to performative activism and the growing political and ideological divide in the U.S.
The film also stars Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr., and William Belleau.
Eddington will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May and will be in theaters from A24 on July 18.
