TIFF50: Aziz Ansari’s ‘Good Fortune,’ ‘Frankenstein,’ Angelina Jolie in ‘Couture’ Announced for 50th Toronto International Film Festival
The 50th Toronto International Film Festival will see the world premieres of a host of new films, including David Michôd’s Christy, starring Sydney Sweeney as trailblazing boxer Christy Martin, Aziz Ansari’s feature directorial debut Good Fortune, starring Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves and more. The 50th Toronto International Film Festival runs September 4-14, 2025.
Bobby Farrelly’s Driver’s Ed, Alice Winocour’s Couture with Oscar winner Angelina Jolie, James Vanderbilt’s Nuremberg with Oscar winners Rami Malek and Russell Crowe will also see their world premiere’s here as well as first time directorial efforts from Succession’s Brian Cox (Glenrothan), Euphoria‘s Maude Apatow (Poetic License) and James McEvoy’s California Schemin,’ a musical biopic.
Cannes winners will be well-represented at Toronto with Palme d’Or winner It Was Just an Accident, Grand Prize winner Sentimental Value and double winner The Secret Agent (Best Director and Best Actor) will all be Canadian premieres, and joint Jury Prize winners Sirāt and Sound of Falling, both North American premieres, heading to Canada.
These films and more join previously announced premieres of Wake Up Dead Man, the third in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out trilogy, Nia DaCosta’s Hedda, Paul Greengrass’s The Lost Bus, HIKARI’s Rental Family, Steven Soderbergh’s The Christophers and more.
Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne the Rock Johnson and Emily Blunt, and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, with Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth, will have their North American premieres at TIFF, implying they’ll likely show up at tomorrow’s Venice Film Festival announcement.
Canadian director Anne Émond’s Peak Everything will be this year’s Closing Night Gala, taking place on the last evening of the Festival, Saturday, September 13.
Several high profile titles not announced this morning include Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly with George Clooney (expect that at Venice), Anemone, starring 3-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis and directed by his son Ronan Day-Lewis, Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme with Timothée Chalamet, Scott Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere (a likely Telluride bow) and Bugonia from Yorgos Lanthimos and starring two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone (another likely Venice starter).
“As Toronto prepares to welcome the world, these selections signal a festival season defined by cinematic excellence, star-studded red carpets with crowd-favorite Hollywood and international talent, and those marquee moments on and off the screen that have defined TIFF for the past five decades,” TIFF’s organizers said in a press release.
