  1. uh, academy should give acting award for the actress’ skill, not because she’s in popular movies. i guess emma thompson is very underrated.she was snubbed by academy when playing mary poppin’s writer: PL Travers in saving mr banks movie, a sublime performance and many critics were asking reasons behind her snubbing This time around, she is also giving another brilliant performance in “alone in berlin”, you should at least put her on the “might be contender list”. Isabelle huppert has interesting female character in “elle”, a video game entrepreneur who survives violent rape, got rave reviews in cannes and many festivals, newcomer madina nalwanga (queen of katwe) also plays interesting character, but i haven’t seen the movie so idk whether she worth the nomination or not. pedro almodovar’s “julieta” is dubbed as the best female-centric movie this year in many festivals, who knows one of its leading actresses (either adriana ugarte or emma suarez) will be nominated. don’t forget pedro is one of foreign directors loved by academy…as from your list above, i love cynthia nixon as emily dickinson in “a quiet passion”, she can surprise us and steal away nomination from popular actress such as marion cotillard. ruth negga and meryl streep are two names that come right to my mind if asked about the best actress strongest contenders, while i think jessica chastain has better chance to be nominated because she has 2 highly reviewed movies that can take her to the last battle.

  2. Isabelle Huppert is a real possibility, she got Oscar winning reviews from “Elle” and is due to receive recognition by the Academy. Plus she was also raved for her work in “Things to Come”. So please, stop trying forcing a momentum for my beloved Viola Davis before the film comes out, she can only win if she’s better than Huppert.

    1. Huppert has a chance at a nomination because she has a good studio. But the film will still be divisive in terms of a Best Actress-type of win. Also, Davis doesn’t have to be better than Huppert to win. This is the Oscars.

  3. Viola Davis – Fences

3 Emma Stone – La La Land
    4 Annette Bening – 20th Century Women
    5 Amy Adams – Arrival
    Jessica Chastain – Miss Sloane

    1. It’s such a competitive year. She’s not out of it by any means, it’s more that as new films and performances are seen they end up moving up (or down) quickly.

  4. Where is Rachel Weisz. It looks like she is being overlooked same like she was ignored despite giving memorable performance in The Deep Blue Sea. She delivered one of the most powerful performances of the year in Mick Jackson’s riveting courtroom drama “Denial”. She deserves a Nomination don’t make people believe in the rotten term called “Oscar Injustice”
