Indiana Film Journalists Association (IFJA) nominations: ‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’ leads with 11
The Indiana Film Journalists Association (IFJA) has announced nominees in all categories for its forthcoming 2020 awards with the Netflix drama i’m thinking of ending things leads all films with 11 total nominations. Winners will be announced on Saturday, December 19.
A24’s Minari and Amazon Studios’ One Night in Miami have 10 nominations each. Pixar’s Soul has eight nominations, while Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Netflix), Never Rarely Sometimes Always (Focus Features) and Promising Young Woman (Focus Features) have seven nominations each. Films that did not receive a 2020 qualifying release, like Paramount’s The United States vs. Billie Holiday and Warner Bros’ Judas and the Black Messiah, did not receive nominations. Curiously, Netflix’s biggest push, Mank, which has been available on the streamer for two weeks, was snubbed entirely. So were two more of the streamer’s contenders, Hillbilly Elegy and Pieces of a Woman.
Many of the categories are more longlists than nominations as they contain up to 20 or more contenders. The IFJA
Midwest Film Journal staff writers and guest contributors who vote in the IFJA include: Bob Bloom, Aly Caviness, Evan Dossey, Eric Harris, Lou Harry, Matt Hurt, Brent Leuthold, Richard Propes, Mitch Ringenberg, Nick Rogers, Joe Shearer, Sam Watermeier and Emily Wheeler.
The IFJA will determine a winner and a runner-up in all categories other than the Hoosier Award, which is a physical award bestowed upon a single recipient. Hoosier Award nominees are also not published ahead of the announcement of winners.
In addition to Best Film and Runner-Up, the IFJA will also release an overall Top 10 — with eight other honored films listed alphabetically after the Best Film and Runner-Up.
