2021 Emmys: ‘Love, Death and Robots,’ ‘Black Is King’ win early juried awards
Love, Death and Robots, Black Is King, The Simpsons and more are among early winners for this year’s Emmy Awards, as the Television Academy announced juried category honorees in the fields of animation, costume, interactive programming and motion design.
Netflix’s Love, Death and Robots dominated the Individual Achievement in Animation section with four wins. Those animators were joined by animators from Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal and The Simpsons for non-competitive, juried prizes.
Beyoncé’s Black Is King from Disney+was largely ignored in the top fields of Emmy nominations but did take home the juried win for its costumes by Zerina Akers and Timothy White for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program. They were joined by the costume teams from The Masked Singer and Sherman’s Showcase Black History Month Spectacular.
“All three winning shows are superb examples of the art of costume design and supervision, showing great creativity in the conception and execution of each unique vision,” said Television Academy governor Laura Guzik.
This year, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place over two days and three events; September 11 at 5pm PT and September 12 at 1pm PT and 5pm PT, where these juried awards will be presented alongside competitive awards like the guest acting prizes. All will take place outside on the events deck at L.A. Live and then air on FXX September 18, the day before the Primetime Emmy Awards.
