Florida Film Critics nominations: ‘The Power of the Dog,’ ‘Annette’ lead
There must be something in the water down in Florida. The state’s top critics’ group announced their nominations on Wednesday with categories of three nominees, some with four, some five and Original Screenplay with seven. Best Picture, a three-film category, is made up of Annette, Mass and The Power of the Dog, a motley crew if there ever was one. TPOTD was the nomination leader with 9 but Annette was right behind with 7, including Best Actor and Best Director nods.
Another left field choice was Ryusuke Hamagachi. But, not just for Drive My Car. His other 2021 film, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy earned him Best Director and Original Screenplay nod and his pair of films landed double Foreign Language Film mentions.
West Side Story was another big nomination getter with six, while Mass, Belfast, Dune and Licorice Pizza all earned four apiece. Winners will be announced on December 21, here is the full list of nominations.
