‘The Power of the Dog’ dominates San Francisco Film Critics awards with 8 wins

The San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle (SFBAFCC) have revealed their 2021 awards for film and Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog dominated the group’s wins with a stunning eight awards from its nine nominations, missing only best cinematography. The film won Best Picture, Director and Adapted Screenplay for Campion, Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Supporting Actor for Kodi Smit-McPhee, Supporting Actress for Kirsten Dunst, Film Editing, and Original Score.

Olivia Colman was named Best Actress for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter, Best Cinematography went to The Tragedy of Macbeth and Nightmare Alley won Best Production Design. Encanto won Best Animated Feature with an honorable mention going to Flee.

The Marlon Riggs to Bay Area goes to a filmmaker(s) or individual(s) who represents courage and innovation in the world of cinema and this year the recipient was Berkeley resident Rita Moreno. She had a phenomenal year with her documentary Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It and returning to West Side Story in a new capacity.
